Best time to visit Congo?
Explore Congo on any day of the year. But, if you are planning for outdoor activities like gorilla treks, game drives and hiking tours, its best if you visit during the dry season. This is experienced from June to August. This season offers relatively warmer air temperatures and less humid conditions to ensure you are comfortable. The vegetation in the nature destinations is less dense in the dry season to offer maximum visibility. Rainfall patterns are also lower therefore causing drier trails and tracks. This makes traversing the nature sites less challenging.
For birding tours, the wet season is the optimal period. This season is experienced from September to May. November to April normally offer great sighting of both resident and migratory bird species from various parts of the world. This is because more frequent rains cause dense vegetation cover in the nature sites to offer more shelter and nourishment for the birds. The water sources in the nature sites also increases which is another factor that enhances their survival.
Safety and Security in Congo?
Congo is still facing a lot of unrest, with the eastern part of the country currently intense armed conflict. The M23 armed group is still in battle with the Congolese army in the forests. This has been resulting into massive loss of lives including game rangers of Virunga National Park. Currently, the Virunga National Park has been closed for tourism until the Congo Institute for Nature Conservation provides official communication of its safety and subsequently reopening. Keep in touch with us, while also staying up to date with news from Congo.
However, you might as well explore other tour destinations that also offer other exciting activities and are safe. These include Kahuzi-Biega National Park and Garamba National Park. Ensure that you have your travel documents since you might be mistaken for an illegal person. Also, take caution since there are criminals everywhere in the world, including Congo. You should opt to travel with a reputable tour operator like us to ensure that you are with people who understand the local population better.
