Overview
The 6 days Kidepo and Murchison Falls NP Safari take you to the most iconic national parks in Uganda to explore wildlife and culture. The safari includes game drives, a boat cruise and a community walk to explore the Karamajong culture. There is optional rhino trekking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on your way back to Kampala. This safari therefore combines breathtaking wildlife encounters, cultural experiences and iconic natural wonders.
Detailed Itinerary
Day1. Transfer to Kidepo Valley National Park from Kampala/Entebbe
Your safari begins early in the morning with a transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Kidepo Valley National Park a long journey that will take about 12 hours’ drive. There will be different stopovers like for lunch and buying some fresh fruits. Kidepo National Park is known to be the most remote national park in Uganda with its untouched scenery with large herds of buffalos. Arrive late evening and check-in for your dinner and night’s stay.
Day2. Full-day game drive
Kidepo is known for its vast untouched wilderness and stunning landscapes, take a full-day game drive to explore the park’s beauty by visiting the Narus Valley which is 9ne of the prime game viewing area. During this day, expect to meet large herds of buffalos, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, leopards, zebras, lions, several antelopes and many more others. Identify some of the unique bird species like the ostriches, hornbills, vultures and more. Lunch will be a picnic and you will enjoy it in the wild. Return to the lodge in the evening for your dinner.
Day3. Game drive and Karamajong community tour
Take a morning game drive to watch more of the missed wildlife from the previous day. After have lunch which will be followed by visiting the Karamajong community walk that will introduce you to one of the unique cultures of Africa. The Karamajong are typically cattle keepers and they live in a home setting known as the Manyattas.
Taste their traditional dishes, take part in traditional music and dances, engage in cattle rearing lifestyle, storytelling and any more others. The cultural interactions with the locals provide a deeper understanding of these people and the region at large. Return to the lodge for your dinner.
Day4. Transfer to Murchison Falls NP
Leave for Murchison falls national park after breakfast a journey that will last for about 7 hours with a stopover in Gulu town for lunch and visiting Gulu central market. Later on, proceed to the park which is known to be the largest national park in Uganda covering an area of 3,893 square kilometers. This park is divided into two different parts by river Nile whereby the northern part is covered with savannahs and the southern part is covered with forest.
The park is also known to be a home for the four of the African Big Five and this means that the Rhinos can’t be found here in this park. Arrive with an evening game drive to watch animals like elephants, buffalos, jackals, lions and more while heading to your lodge.
Day5. Game drive and boat cruise
Take a morning game drive where you expect to meet different animals like zebras, giraffes, lions, leopards, warthogs, elephants, buffalos, bushbucks, oribis, hippos and more. There is a great break at the hippo pull where you will enjoy bush breakfast or fruits at the hippo pool.
The game drive will last for 2 hours, then head to the lodge for a lunch break. After, head to enjoy the boat cruise on Albertine accompanied by a great view of the falls from the bottom many animals like elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and buffalos among others will be seen plus birds. Return to the lodge and this will be the end of the day.
Day 6. Travel back to Kampala and optional enroute rhino trekking
Have breakfast and set off to Kampala with a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary where you will have a chance to trek the rhinos on foot. Trekking gives a close encounter with wildlife especially rhinos and other antelopes for 2 hours.
Have lunch and proceed to Kampala, be dropped at any agreed point and this will mark the end of the safari.
