Overview.
The 3-day Rwanda Gorilla Safari offers an unforgettable experience in Africa. The safari will begin at the airport in Kigali the capital of Rwanda with a scenic view of Volcanoes National Park accompanied by rolling hills and then to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. The highlight of this tour included trekking the majestic mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.
Along the way, learn about the vibrant Rwanda culture by visiting the Iby’iwachu cultural village the tour will end with visiting some of the notable attractions in Kigali city such as the Kimironko market, Kigali Memorial Centre, Art and Gallery Centre and many more others.
Detailed Itinerary.
Day1. Pickup from Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
The assigned driver guide will pick you up from the airport and you will transfer to Volcanoes National Park. This park is amazing and one of the few protected areas located in the Virunga mountains known for homing the endangered mountain gorilla together with golden monkeys the rare primate species.
The journey takes about 3 to 4 hours of scenic drive through the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Burera. Arrive and take a shower and you prepare for tomorrow’s adventure with the gorillas.
Day2. Gorilla trekking and visit Iby’iwachu cultural village
The day begins with breakfast, followed by a drive to the park offices for briefing, crosschecking the gorilla permits, hiring Porters and more. Briefing follows the rules and regulations for trekking such as not feeding animals, always keeping a distance from the apes, not letting them litter and more.
Begin the trek with the guidance of the park ranger while meeting other attractions like the olive baboons, varvet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys and more of the birds, plants and butterflies. On sighting the gorilla for the first time, spend an hour with them while taking and capturing memories with your camera.
The family of gorillas can be playing, searching for food, breast feeding if they have young ones and many more others. Later on, head to the lodge for lunch which will be followed by a visit to Iby’iwachu cultural village. This village allows you to encounter the Rwandese culture through exploring the music dance drama, storytelling, learning about art and craft making and more.
Day3. Head back to Kigali, city tour and departure flight
Have breakfast and head back to Kigali after checking out. Have a short city tour where you visit places like the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, the Art and Gallery Centre, the Kimironko Market and others. The tour will end with a Drop-off at Kigali International Airport.
