Chimpanzee trekking in Uganda

Chimpanzee trekking tours in Uganda are very heartwarming and offer memorable experiences. With around 5,000 chimpanzees in Uganda, you have a great chance to encounter these amazing great apes in their natural homes on a chimp trek. The minimum age for chimp trekking in Uganda is 12 years. A chimpanzee trekking tour can take between 2 to 4 hours. This also depends on their location in the forest since they are lively and mostly arboreal animals.

Chimpanzee trekking normally starts with a briefing from the expert guides at the forest. You will then be led by an excellent tracker and armed ranger into the forest. They will guide you to track a habituated group of chimpanzees. You will encounter them, and allowed only an hour to see them. This opportunity is also exciting as you will see how these chimpanzees express different behaviors in their natural homes. Afterwards you will walk back to the starting point.

To ensure your safety and the chimps, do not go for the trek while ill to avoid spreading the disease to them. Remember they share about 98% of human DNA. Do not litter, drink, eat or smoke during your chimp trek. Once you encounter the habituated chimp group, try your best to maintain a distance of 10 m from them at all times. Try to always keep quite and do not use flash photography. When nature calls, ensure to bury the waste, at least 30 cm in the ground.
