Overview
Embarking on a 14 days South Sudan cultural expedition to amazing tribes is similar to taking a trip down memory lane to the ancient times of the forefathers of Africa. This is because of the uncharted nature of these tribes that have not changed even after years of civilization. Tribes like the Lopit, Jie, Kapoeta, and Mundari, among others, will be explored in these 14 days as unveiled in the detailed itinerary below.
Day 1: Arrival at Juba International Airport and city sightseeing tour.
You will arrive at Juba Airport; our female guide will meet you at the airport for pick-up to the hotel. Check into the hotel royal palace for your night, and after that you will meet the team at the reception for a briefing on the next programs. Thereafter, you’ll relax, have lunch, do passport registration, and at 4:30, the driver will pick you up for a drive to the city to explore.
Day 2: Drive to Lopit Mountain Village. (5-6 hours’ drive).
After your nice breakfast at 6:00 am, the team will meet you at 7:00 am to start your journey to the Eastern part of the country, arrive at Torit city, capital of Eastern province, and have your lunch at Torit hotel, while the guide clears up permits with state authorities. Thereafter, you will continue your journey through the Lotuko and Lopit ranges to arrive at Imehekejek village of the Lopit people.
On arrival, you’ll check in at the camp where the local guide will meet and welcome you with a briefing about the Lopit lifestyle. Relax, have coffee/fruits to refresh from the long drive, and later at 4:00 pm, you’ll join the guide team to take you through the beautiful village of the Lopit people for your evening photography.
Day 3: Spend the whole day exploring to learn more about the Lopit people.
You will spend this day immersing yourself in exploring and learning more about the Lopit lifestyle. The day will start with morning traditional dances of Lopit men and women dressed in leopard skins, monkey skins, ostrich feathers, and many more beautiful attires of women’s beads.
Day 4: Drive to Buya Mountains. (4 hours’ drive)
After your delicious breakfast, the team will pack the car while you, with the local guide, take a walk to the village to say goodbye to the people! This is your last morning of photography with the Lopit people. Thereafter, you will join the team to set off on your journey to the Buya Mountains. Arrive at camp 15- have your packed lunch while the guide clears the permit with the county Authorities.
Thereafter after you will proceed to Kim’s Tong villages. Arrive and you will walk with a local guide in the village to say hi to the beautiful Larim ladies grinding cereals on the stone in the village. Explore the villages with photographs of the evening daily activities of the Larim people.
Day 5: Spend the whole day exploring & photography.
You will spend the whole day exploring and taking photos of the amazing Larim beautiful scarifications, beautiful houses, and of course, meeting and interacting with the local people to learn more about their unique cultures and lifestyles. This day will begin with amazing traditional dances with the Larim ladies and men.
Day 6: Goodbye to Buya & drive to the great Toposa region (4 hours’ drive).
After your sunrise photography session with the Larim people, have breakfast and then pack and drive to the Toposa region of Gold and hospitable people. You’ll arrive at the busiest Kapoeta town, where you’ll have your Lunch in one of the hotels in town, while the guide clears the permit with the authorities. Thereafter, you will proceed with your journey to one of the largest villages of Toposa- (Mogos Village). Arrive, meet, and interact with Toposa people. Evening activities photo experience.
Day 7: Morning photography with Toposa and drive to Jie (3 hours’ drive).
After your nice breakfast, you’ll start the day with Toposa traditional dances with morning photography. After, you will pack with a team and drive to Jie village of Lopet, arrive, and proceed for evening photography at sunset. The Jie villages are so big that you’ll spend enough time exploring.
You will spend 3-4 hours exploring and taking pictures of the Jie people. You will cover one village this evening and one more in the morning.
Day 8: Goodbye to Jie and drive to Kapoeta. (5 hours’ drive).
After a morning photo session with traditional dances of the Jie people, have breakfast, you will then pack with the team and drive to another Toposa village to add the Toposa experience in another village. You will spend 3-4 hours in two different Toposa villages before proceeding to Kapoeta town.
Day 9: Kapoeta market tour and fly to Juba.
After your nice breakfast at 7:00 am, you will walk or drive to the local market to explore the business activities of the local people. After you’ll be driven to the airport for your flight to Juba.
The rest of the time is to relax, refresh with a cool bath, swim, and go to the hotel by the River Nile to enjoy your dinner while enjoying the cool breeze of the mighty Nile.
Day 10: Tour the Mundari Villages.
After breakfast at 8 am, you will start with a visit to one of the largest markets in the city, and visit the cultural recreational center of the Bari people, where the man named after Juba city is buried.
Thereafter, meet with the rest of the team at the hotel to pack and drive to the Mundari cattle camp. You will arrive at the cattle camp exactly 1 hour before the arrival of the cows from grazing areas. This time you’ll meet amazing activities of cleaning, burning cow dung, smoky arena, drum beating to welcome cows back from grazing fields, etc.
Day 11: Spend the whole day with your Mundari friends.
You will start the day with sunrise photography of the morning Mundari activities of massaging cows, milking, urine wash, collecting and drying of cow dung, etc. The rest of the hours are spent enjoying storytelling with your Mundari friends after the cows have gone for grazing. Morning and evening photography!
Day 12: Drive to the largest villages of Mundari by the riverside, after a morning photo session.
After the morning experience, you take a drive of 1 hour to one of the largest villages of Mundari set by the River Nile side. If lucky, you will experience a traditional wedding of the Mundari since this will be one of the months of such activities.
This is to give you a full experience of the Mundari cultural lifestyle. After the village tour, you will drive back for your lunch, relax while waiting for the cows to return from grazing fields, and you will once again enjoy the evening activities experience!
Day 13: Final morning photography and goodbye to the Mundari.
After the morning’s last experience with the Mundari, you’ll drive back to Juba. The rest of the day is to relax, sleep to refresh from the long tour, and explore Juba to buy whatever gifts you want for your friends. “And this morning is the time to say goodbye to the team!
Day 14: Flight back home.
After your breakfast, our driver will escort you to the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
