Overview
In this 7-day South Sudan cultural tour, you are tasked with exploring the different tribes of South Sudan, each with different cultures, such as Toposa, Buya/Larim, Lotuko, and Mundari. South Sudan is a hub of epic cultures that are rich in their ancient traditions, regardless of the new normal of the world today, through modernity.
Day 1. Arrival at Juba International Airport – transfer to hotel.
You will arrive at Juba International Airport, where you will meet our city tour guide to receive a warm welcome to the world’s youngest nation, South Sudan. Your first impression is meeting the tallest people on earth. The rest of the day is dedicated to exploring, relaxing, and brief preparation for the next programs.
Day 2. Drive for 6 hours to visit Larim – people with the most beautiful body scarifications.
After your nice breakfast at 6:00 am, the team will meet you at the hotel to pack luggage into cars and therefore en route to Eastern part of the country through South Sudan – Kenya highway to arrive to Torit – capital city of Eastern Equatoria, have your lunch at Torit hotel, while the guide clears up permits with the state authorities, thereafter continue with your journey to kimotong villages of Larim.
On your way, you will enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Eastern Equatoria mountains. Arrive and take a nature walk to explore the most beautiful villages of the Larrim people built right at the mountain slopes, meet and interact with the local people, take amazing photos with amazing people at the best hour of sunset.
Day 3. Drive for 3 hours to visit toposa – the most hospitable people, also with beautiful scars on their cheeks, faces, and bodies.
After your amazing morning experience with the larim traditional dances and photography, have breakfast, and then drive for 3 hours to visit the Toposa people. The Toposa are a Nilotic group related to the Karamojong of Uganda, the Turkana of Kenya, and the Nyangatom of Ethiopia. They keep cows, goats, and sheep. Donkeys and camels are their primary source of income and wealth. The Toposa people practice subsistence farming, growing mainly sorghum and maize as staple food crops.
Marriage in Toposa is customary, where two families agree on a certain number of cows to be paid to the girl’s parents. The girl will only choose a man she loves only if he is found rich or if her parents accept, and if not, she is given by force to the man the parents have negotiated with. You will arrive at the Toposa of Machi clan-village for your evening experience with Toposa evening activities of cow milking, singing /praising of lovely bulls, dances, and enjoy traditional weddings if lucky to find one.
Day 4. Drive for 5 hours to visit the Lotuko Kingdom.
Have your morning experience with Toposa morning activities accompanied by traditional dances, enjoy your nice breakfast, and then pack and drive to the Lotuko kingdom of Illeu village. You will arrive and hike for 20 minutes to explore the Otuho kingdom, visit the king’s palace, visit the village rainmaker’s palace, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Lotuko mountains.
The Lotuko, also called Otuho people, are a Nilotic group believed to have originated from Ethiopia during the 14th century and came and settled on the banks of the Nile, where the two kings fought to take over the Nile, but after which the Lotuko king defeated the Bari king. They do practice subsistence farming, growing mainly sorghum as a staple food crop.
Day 5. Morning experience with lotuko sexy traditional dance – drive to Juba. (5 hours drive).
After your amazing morning experience with Lotuko’s sexy traditional dance, have breakfast and then pack and drive to Juba, you will stop at Torit hotel for your lunch. Thereafter, continue to Juba. The rest of the day is to refresh, explore, and walk to the Nile riverside for your dinner.
Day 6. Juba-Mundari cattle camp. (1-hour drive).
After your nice breakfast, morning visit to Konyokonyo, the city’s largest market, visit the catholic cathedral, visit Garang Museum, have lunch, and then drive for 1 hour to the Mundari cattle camp. The cows and bulls return to the camp before sunset. You will arrive at the camp to experience a few activities, such as cleaning, burning of dried cow dung, etc.
Mundari is a small ethnic group related to the Nilotic people. The Mundari, with their Dinka neighbors is known for keeping long-horned Tusti cows related to those of Rwanda and Uganda. They are also believed to be one of the tallest giant people in Africa. Mundari practice subsistence farming, growing mainly sorghum and groundnuts as staple food crops.
Day 7. Morning, last photos with the Mundari people and fly back.
Morning experience with Mundari morning activities of urine washing, cleaning and drying of cow dung, massaging of bulls, milking, blowing in the cow’s vagina to stimulate milk production, after you drive to Juba for hotel day use to take a shower, and our city driver guide will drop at the airport for your flight back to your next destinations.
