Overview
Visit the Lopit, Buya, and Lotuko tribes of South Sudan and explore their cultures on this 6 days South Sudan cultural tour. Popularly known for rearing livestock and their herding activities with their cattle, these tribes express their love for their cattle in a whole new form. Witness these activities while on your 6 days trip as per the detailed itinerary below.
Day 1. Arrival at Juba International Airport – Transfer to the hotel.
You will arrive at Juba International Airport, where you will meet our city tour guide to receive and happy welcome to the world’s youngest nation, South Sudan. Your first impression is meeting the tallest people on earth. The rest of the day is spent exploring, relaxing, and briefing to prepare for the next programs.
Day 2. Drive for 6 hours to visit Buya/Larrim – people with beautiful body scarifications.
After your nice breakfast, you will drive for 6 hours to the Kimatong villages of the Larim people. The larim is the right ethnic name, while buya is the nickname given by their neighbours Toposa, meaning people living in the mountains. Larim speaks Murle and are excellent architects, building unique grass hut houses with small doors for protection. They also pierce their nose, ears, lips, and scarify their bodies, and are considered to have the most sophisticated scarification in the whole of Africa as a way of beauty and confidence. The more the scars, the earlier you get married, with more cows. Larim also grows seasonal crops such as sorghum as the main staple food crop. Evening experience with the local people in their villages set on mountain slopes.
Day 3. Morning experience with Larim and to Lopit hills – visit people with Leopard skins and Ostrich feathers.
Morning experience with the Larim people, enjoy their traditional dance, have breakfast, then drive to Lopit hills for evening experience with the Lopit people. Arrive and visit the village traditional healer and rain maker, explore the beautiful scenery of Lopit hills with their tall house set right at the mountain slopes. Lopit people, also called Donge, keep cows and practice subsistence farming, growing mainly sorghum as a staple food crop. They also speak a similar language to the Lotuko brothers.
Day 4. Morning experience with Lopit traditional dancers – drive to Juba.
After your sunrise experience with Lopit traditional dancers, have breakfast and drive to Juba. You will stop in the Torit hotel for lunch, then proceed to Juba.
Day 5. City tour and drive to Mundari Cattle Camp.
Have your nice breakfast, take a city tour, have lunch, and then drive to Mundari cattle camp to experience Mundari evening activities, of cleaning, burning cow dung, beating of drums to welcome cows back from grazing fields, etc.
Day 6. Amazing sunrise experience with Mundari activities – drive to Juba & fly back.
You will wake up for your last sunrise experience to witness the Mundari morning activities of urine washing, milking, blow of the cow’s vagina to stimulate it to produce milk, massage of the bulls, cleaning of the cow dung, and drying.
Thereafter, have your breakfast, pack, and drive to Juba for a hotel day use to take a shower and transfer to the airport for your flight back to your next destination.
