Overview
The tribes of Mundari, Lotuko, Larim/Buya, and Lopit are up for exploration on your 7 days cultural tour to South Sudan. This ultimate trip opens doors to an expedition for you as you walk through the daily lives of the people of these tribes and learn their different traditions and cultures. The detailed itinerary below is well-crafted for you to have the best cultural experience in South Sudan.
Day 1: Arrival at Juba International Airport
You will arrive at Juba International Airport, and our female English guide will happily welcome you to the world’s youngest nation. Your first impression at the airport is meeting the tallest people on earth. Drive to the hotel Royal Palace for 15-20 minutes.
After checking in, you’ll gather at the reception for a program briefing. The rest of the day is to do the necessary registrations of passports, explore Juba city on foot if time is still 4-6 pm, relax, and prepare yourselves for the next tour programs.
Day 2: Drive for 4 hours to tour Lotuko Village.
After your nice breakfast, you’ll drive for 4 hours to the eastern part of the country. Arrive at Torit city, capital of the Eastern Equatorial region, and have your lunch at Torit Hotel, while the guide clears up permits with the state authorities.
Then, after proceeding to the Ileuo village of the Lotuko people. On your arrival, you’ll pick up your photography tools with a small backpack and hike for 20minutes to explore Lotuko village. You will meet the village’s traditional healer, Rainmaker, in your evening experience. And amazing Lotuko traditional dances for your morning experience.
Day 3: Drive for 3 hours to Buya Mountains – photography of the tribe with beautiful body scarifications.
You will wake up at 5:30 for your morning coffee and snacks, and, after you hike for 20 minutes to the village at the mountain slope for your sunrise experience with the Lotuko traditional sexy dances, you’ll then slope back to the camp for your delicious breakfast. Thereafter, the team will pack and you will drive for 3 hours to the Buya Mountains to explore the Larim people.
You will arrive at the Larim town center, where you’ll stop for 1hour for the guide to clear up permits with the county authorities, while you take a walk through the market to take pictures to get first impressions of the beautiful Larim people before immersing yourselves in the nice villages.
You’ll then proceed to the Imatong villages of the Larim tribe, where you’ll arrive and take a nature walk to explore the villages set at the foothills of the mountains. You will meet and interact with the locals, experience their daily evening activities like ladies grinding on the stones, evening dances, the arrival of cows, and milking, etc. You will conclude the tour of the Larim tribe with morning traditional dances!
Day 4: Drive for 5 hours to Lopit territory – photography of the people dressed in leopard skins, ostrich feathers, and monkey skins.
After morning experience with Larim traditional dances, have breakfast and then pack and drive for 5 hrs to Lopit mountains. You will have your packed lunch on the way. On arrival at Imehekejek village – one of the largest villages of the Lopit people, you will check in the camp, relax with coffee and some fruits to refresh for the long drive, while here the local guide will meet to give a briefing on the day’s programs. You will then, after this, take a nature walk to explore the beautiful village set right at the foothills. Meet and interact with locals to discover their daily life activities. This is your first impression to take pictures inside the houses with people organizing the evening activities of cooking, milking, stone grinding, etc. You will conclude the Lopit experience with Amazing traditional dances and quality photography.
Day 5: Drive for 6 hours back to Juba.
After your morning experience with Lopit traditional dances and photography, you will have your nice breakfast and then pack and drive back to Juba, packed lunch on the way.
Day 6: Drive for 1 hour to the amazing Mundari world.
After your nice breakfast, you are requested to go to your rooms to pack your valuables in the bags ready for check out at noon. And thereafter, you will drive with our drivers to one of the largest markets in the city- visit the main catholic cathedrals, cross the old and new biggest bridges built on the mighty White Nile, visit the Garang memorial grounds, visit the parliament, and conclude with the visit to the Bari traditional ceremonial ground in old Juba town.
You will then all gather at the hotel with the rest of the team to pack your bags in the cars to en route to the Mundari cattle camp. You will arrive at the cattle camp 1 hour early, for the arrival of cows back from the grazing fields. But you’re not going to wait, instead you’ll meet the most amazing activities of cleaning, burning of cow dung, smoky arena, Drum beatings to welcome cows back, and then of course join in the mowing of cows, calves, and bulls while arriving at the camp. These are your sweetest moments for sunrise photography.
Day 7: Morning, last photography with Mundari and fly back home.
You will wake up at 5:30 am for your coffee and snacks, then join the sunrise, amazing photography of the mundari morning activities of cleaning, drying cow dung, massaging of bulls, urine washing, blowing of the pussy for cows with dead calves, milking and cooking, and serving of coffee. This is your last chance to capture enough with the Mundari people. And thereafter, drive to Juba for a hotel day use to take showers or swim, have lunch, and then drive to the airport for your flight back home!
NB. These morning activities can only happen if the team is flying back in the afternoon or evening hours. And if it’s morning hours, you will leave the cattle camp at 5:30 am if the flight is at 7:50- 9 am, and if at 12-1 pm, you will leave the camp at 9:00 am. And in case there are people among the team whose flights are early morning or any time of the day, our team is flexible to make the necessary arrangements to make sure they are dropped off at the airport within the flight departure schedules.
